While leading Princeton to a Sweet 16 and a Cinderella story, Tosan Evbuomwan had an entire country on his side. The 6’7″ stretch forward from Newcastle, England brought basketball to the spotlight in a place where it doesn’t often shine.
Now, he begins his professional career in the NBA’s G League with the Motor City Cruise. He signed with the Detroit Pistons as an undrafted free agent before earning an Exhibit 10 deal to join the team for training camp. Detroit likely never planned for Evbuomwan to make their NBA roster. But the organization ensured they retained his rights so he can develop with the Cruise.
He has played a large role in helping the Cruise win each of their first two games, recording a double-double in the season opener with 11 points and 11 rebounds. He followed that performance with 15 points, seven assists, and four rebounds in game two, showing off his versatile style of play.
Evbuomwan did it all for Princeton, operating with the ball in his hands most possessions. That role changes in the Motor City. But a different style of play has yet to slow him down.
In his young professional career, Evbuomwan has shown he belongs. And he has an entire country cheering him on.
